Real Time Imaging of Breast Cancer Surgical Margins

Breast-conserving surgery has become one of the most common treatments for breast tumors. Achieving tumor-free surgical margins significantly reduces the risk of local recurrence. Currently, assessment of excised breast tissue margins is performed by a pathology laboratory several days after surgery. When residual cancer is detected at the margins (a positive margin), additional surgery may be required.

There is a clear unmet need for a real-time, precise, practical, and cost-effective device that can reliably assess breast tissue margins during surgery. ClearEdge is an intraoperative imaging device developed to address this need by enabling the identification of breast tissue abnormalities in real time. The images it provides during surgery can significantly reduce the likelihood of repeat procedures.
